This fine 12th century church stands quite simply off the road. You have to stop here, especially since the stone building was renovated a few years ago.

The current cemetery chapel dates from the second half of the 12th century. It was given to the monks of the Lérins monastery near Cannes and they built a small priory here. But there were never more than two churchmen here. The chapel was the parish church of Vergons until the 16th century.

The chapel is mostly open and free to visit.

Inside the building is completely bare. It is this simple sparseness in the gentle landscape that makes it so appealing. Three round apses can be seen on the east outside. Inside they form three altars and a false transept. The structure is in basilica style, the bell gable is of recent construction, the side gate is also a recent remodelling.

Access by car

Vergons is situated in an ascending valley to the east of Lac de Castillon, on the N202 dual carriageway, which is not particularly busy here.

Coming from the lake, the chapel is behind Vergons and 5 kilometres from St. Julien-du-Verdon. The building is then clearly visible to the left of the road.

Coming from Nice, the last big place is Entrevaux. You follow the road to Castellane through a lonely mountain landscape. Driving past the hamlet of l'Iscle, the inconspicuous Col de Toutes Aures soon follows. Two kilometres later, the chapel is clearly visible on the right.
