Description

This chapel dedicated to the Irish saint is located on a slight rise between Pierrevert and Sainte-Thulle. We are in the limestone country in the far east of the Luberon. The nearest town is Manosque, but you don't feel any of its hustle and bustle here.

The chapel is in the late Romanesque style. There is no written trace to date it, but it could date back to the 14th century. It has been dedicated to Saint Patrick since 1631 because he is said to have preserved the village from the plague.

The flat apse faces northeast. The arch of the door and the oculus are made of the finer Mane limestone. There we find the date of 1835 which undoubtedly corresponds to a reconsecration during the Christian refractory campaigns. It was completely restored in 1958. Other restoration campaigns took place in 1997 and around 2022.

You can't see anywhere inside. We don't find any representation of it either. The chapel may be empty as many since it served as a hangar until 1957.

St. Patrice Chapel

Access by public transport

Line 124 of Trans'Agglo (only french) allows you to come from Manosque to Pierrevert. Take it to the Stade terminus in Pierrevert. Go back towards Pierrevert and turn left onto Chemin du Quair. Continue this small road, left after the stadium and then in a straight line and turn with the road on the right. At the crossroads just after turn left into Chemin des Fourques, going slightly uphill. This path leads through the fields and directly to the chapel. It is discreetly marked yellow all along.

The path to follow from Pierrevert to the chapel is to be found in purple on the map.

Access by car

We are in the Manosque region. From all directions except the Luberon and Vaucluse, you leave the A51 motorway at Manosque. Head first towards the town, but at the roundabout before the Canal EDF turn left towards Ste. Tulle. We pass an artisanal zone and on the straight road which passes under Ste. Tulle, you must turn at a right angle and without warning to the right at the pedestrian crossing. When we recognize the parking lot of the EDF power plant we have gone too far. At the end of the straight line on the right and at the small roundabout on the left. Straight ahead and slightly right at the next roundabout. Now go straight for 2 kilometres and turn sharp left, a sign already indicates the Chapelle St. Patrice.

Coming from the Luberon and Vaucluse, we pass Apt towards the east. Turn right at Les Granons and follow the signs towards the A51 motorway. Later towards Pierrevert. Cross the village on the main road D105 towards Sainte Tulle. After a final speed bump, follow two reminders for 50 km/h limitation. After the second there is a cedar hedge on the right. We immediately turn right afterwards.

Now for both directions: after a right turn, take the second road on the right. We then are near the chapel.

Although you can park in front of the chapel, it is better to go beyond it and then take the dedicated parking lot on the left.
