The area is not just a museum with works of art, it is the last residence of Auguste Renoir, the most important French painter of impressionism. He died here in 1919. You can visit his studio and especially his garden. The view extends to the sea and the old town of Cagnes.

Access by public transport

Bus line 49 starts at Cagnes-sur-Mer train station towards St. Jeannet and La Gaude, but it runs very rarely. Get off at the Musée Renoir stop and then walk down the street to the entrance.

Lines 620, 637, 650 and 655 stop at Square Bourdet. From this stop, head east on the broad street and turn left at the Passage Renoir. This is how you get to the Chemin des Collettes, where you climb about 100 meters to the entrance of the museum.

Access by car

Coming from Marseille on the A8, exit at Villeneuve-Loubet and follow the signs to Cagnes. Later follow the arrows to Centre-Ville and Saint-Paul. You drive a long way under the motorway and then make a detour around a small park. Collettes is now signposted, but we pass a large car park, it is better to turn right and park here.

From Menton and Nice, take the Cagnes-sur-Mer exit, turn right at the roundabout and then right straight towards Collettes. After a left turn you come to the entrance to the parking lot on the right.

Only in the absolute low season can you dare to drive up the Chemin des Collettes (signposted Collettes), there are only a few parking spaces along the road.

Description

Renoir buys the Domaine des Collettes in 1907 and the villa is completed in 1908. Here he paints his Période Cagnoise, inspired mainly by his garden with the old olive trees. The old court can also often be found in his works. Here he also received the artists of his time: Matisse, Rodin, Picasso, Monet and many others.

Admission is chargeable for those over 26 years of age, in 2022 the admission price was EUR 6.00. The museum opens at 10am and it is advisable to arrive early to enjoy the cool garden and also to have fewer visitors inside. Attention, there is a lunch break between 12am and 2pm (1pm - 2pm in summer). Closed on Tuesdays.
